As we get older, our teeth and gums respond to aging in the same manner the rest of the body does. Over the years, it can become more difficult to maintain good oral health as teeth and gums decay at an accelerated rate. Understanding how your teeth and gums respond to aging can help you care for them.
It is very important to inform our dental team if you are taking bisphosphonates for Osteoporosis. Patients who take this type of common drug class may develop a condition called osteonecrosis. This is a rare condition that may cause severe damage to the jawbone. If you plan to stop taking this medication, please discuss this with your regular physician.
Wisdom teeth are your third molars and the last ones to surface. Many patients do not have room within their facial structure to support the growth of wisdom teeth. This can lead to pain that is caused by inflammation when opening your jaw. If wisdom teeth are bothersome and left untreated, serious problems may arise such as, tooth decay and gum infections. We recommend that every patient come in before the age of 18 to have an evaluation for possible extraction.
